Central Juniors Annual
Indigenous Round Event
After two years of Covid, our Junior Committee decided that 2022 was the year that we would work together to make a difference, not just to our club but within our wider community.
Diversity and equal opportunities for all players have always been values we have held highly at Central Juniors but in 2022 we decided to truly embrace and celebrate the Indigenous Culture of the players and families at our club.
That year, 24% of the players at Central Juniors identified as Indigenous or Torres Strait Islander, since we began hosting our annual Indigenous Round, this number has increased to 26% of our players. But 2022 was just the start!
Over the past two years our Indigenous Round has grown bigger and better than we ever could have imagined. And in 2023 all 24 of our Central Juniors teams proudly played at St John Oval in their Indigenous Jerseys.

The Jerseys are an important part of the day. Designed every year by a parent of our players, the jerseys represent the beautiful Awabakal land that we are proud to call home, as well as displaying the names of the tribes of our players and their families.

“Every image on the front of the jersey represents the totum of a local Indigenous Tribe, and on the back of the Jersey we included the names of the tribes that every single one of our Indigenous Players comes from.”
2023 Jersey – Designed by Courtney Campbell
“My name is Courtney Campbell and I’m a proud Gamilaroi Woman born on Awabakal land. My totem is Emu- dhinawan in the Gamilaraay language. My artwork is inspired by the annual whale migration up along our coastline towards warmer waters to feed and calve at this time of year. A great time of the year for both whales and footy!”
